Historically, being literate since Gutenberg generally meant the ability to read and write in the vernacular, but it has evolved to encompass a broader range of skills and knowledge.

Artificial Intelligence large language models, like ChatGPT, are only one tool that may challenge our notion of what it means to be literate. Accurate voice recognition capabilities may complement or even replace text composition. Visual competencies with augmented and virtual realities add yet another technology that may be part of the mix of what is required to be functionally literate in the near-term future.

An indenture is a distinctive mark or cut across a document that is identical on each half, thereby authenticating a contract or deed between two parties.
